As a Senior Developer with AARP, one of my responsibilities is to screen potential candidates for web developer roles. Although most of the resumes that come across my desk usually look good at first glance and always boast years of impressive industry experience, less than one in ten candidates make it past the first round of interviews. It is my belief that this disconnect between the mastery of requisite material we are looking for and what many of the candidates demonstrate, stems from a fundamental failure to understand fully the core technologies which form the underpinnings of the internet and the web. In this session, we will take a deep dive into some of the 'how' and 'why' questions surrounding the internet and the web and also look at why asking questions such as these might help make you a better programmer. Please come prepared to have fun and you may get to show off your web development chops by answering some (deceptively easy) interview questions!
