Writing in Plain Style Online

Apr 4, 2020 · ,

Plain language has been in the news of late, as the federal government has gone to great pains to force financial companies to write their financial agreements in plain language. Unfortunately, the plain writing style is quickly becoming a lost art form. However, if you have a message and you want that message read, plain language writing is often the best delivery style that is available to you as a paper writing services writer. The purpose of any plain language document is to make a proposition, and then describe that proposition in a series of easy-to-understand written thoughts. That means that you must employ a series of concise, easy-to-read and easy-to-understand statements in support of your proposition. The following steps describe the process of writing a document in plain style, helping writers to learn how to employ this process in a systematic manner.

Know Your Audience
The success of any plain language document depends upon the author's ability to accurately identify his or her audience. Plain language documents expand the scope of the audience by not using technical jargon and by explaining big ideas in small, accurate and succinctly delivered portions. Any reader should be able to digest the article and be able to grasp the writer's proposition because it is presented in a forthright manner.

Maintain an Active Voice
Your writing voice is determined by the verbs that you use in the document. Plain language writing calls for active verbs, as passive verbs only serve to slow the presentation and can be confusing. Stay on message by only writing in the active voice.

Be Concise
A series of short, concise thoughts in the active voice is much more palatable to a reader than long, rangy sentences with multiple thoughts are. Your proposition must be supported by strong sentences that convey one supporting thought at a time. Sentences that contain more than 20 words, for example, must be re-worked.
