World Product Day: Growing, fast and slow.

May 23, 2018 · Sydney, Australia

Come and see 2 amazing talks while celebrating World Product Day with Product Tank communities from around the world.

For this special occasion, we are bringing you 2 inspiring and practical talks that will give you new skills to put into practice the next day. Leaning on the title of the famous book "Thinking, fast and slow", this session's talks will focus on both:
• fast-paced growth and how your company can improve every single week;
• how to find alignment on long-term strategies.

6.00 PM: Arrive and Networking
6.30 PM: "Improving product-market-fit and growth every single week" by Pasha Rayan, including Q&A
7.15 PM: "Using simple sketching for clever product thinking and strategy" by Ben Crothers, including Q&A
8.00 PM: More Drinks and Networking

Here are the skinnies on the talks and speakers:

1) "Improving product-market-fit and growth every single week" by Pasha Rayan

Who is Pasha?

Pasha is the CTO and co-founder of InsideSherpa, a venture-funded software startup that partners with top-tier law, finance, and consulting firms to create virtual internships. Think of virtual internships as a 5-6 hour learning simulation of the work you would do as a graduate at leading companies, delivered online. As CTO, Pasha drives the technology and product that allows virtual internships to help students gain the practical skills required to thrive in high-performing companies. Within two weeks of launching their first law virtual-internships, they had 5% of all law students in Australia enrol.

Previous to founding InsideSherpa, Pasha was a senior growth product manager at the ASX-listed, where he managed multiple product teams to help the 26 million freelancers and employers on the platform. Pasha studied Commerce and Philosophy at the University of New South Wales and started his career in KPMG’s management consulting arm.

What's the talk about?

At InsideSherpa we aim to improve growth and product-market fit every week. To do this, we've set up processes and tools that allow our small 5 person startup to tackle the blockers and identify the right opportunities to execute on. This is a rundown of how we do it.

2) "Using simple sketching for clever product thinking and strategy" by Ben Crothers

Who is Ben?

Ben has over 20 years' experience in digital design and strategy, and has helped a wide range of products, services and campaigns to increase their market share and profit. Right now he is Principal Designer at Atlassian, where he helps teams with customer research, product strategy and patterns to work together more effectively. Ben is also the author of a cracking new book for designers, product managers and entrepreneurs called Presto Sketching: The Magic of Simple Drawing for Brilliant Product Thinking and Design.

What's the talk about?

Most product teams use roadmaps and software tools for tracking work, but what about when we have to come up with longer-term strategies? Or prioritising different ideas to work on? That’s why it’s becoming more and more important to master the whiteboard, and use quick visuals to find clarity and alignment. In this hands-on session, sketch along with design strategist and facilitator Ben Crothers from Atlassian, as he shows you how to use simple sketching techniques to envision and communicate your product strategy with your team. And good news! No previous drawing experience required.

Our host for the night will be hiPages who will generously supply their space as well as drinks and pizzas!

Also, come see Ben or Adrienne if you are interested in speaking at a future Product Tank event.
