Women, Politics & Society

Jun 24, 2015 · Greater London, United Kingdom

This will be the next meeting of the Women's Empowerment group. As our meetings have evolved, we find some clear themes recurring. In 2015, the 'agenda' headlines are:
- Whichever 'wave' of feminism we are in, a lot of change is going in the wrong direction? Discuss!
- How far is the 'equality' of sexes helping achieve the social change it espouses? What is the current 'score'? (statistics, public life, leaders, politics, business, domestic roles, influence on everyday culture and media, power, etc.)
- Some seasoned members of the groups would like to have a well-informed and supportive conversation (rather than having to revisit and argue some basics about experiences, attitudes and inter-gender conflicts). How can we establish a healthy launchpad for our meetings?
- 'Women-only' meetings - why this format is such a contentious idea, and how much can be gained from experimenting with gender-inclusive dynamics (NOT 'gender neutral' - that means the male culture default prevails)
Each meeting responds to the people who join us. Every individual is invited to flag up their interests and stories, and the focus reflects what our real desires and needs are on the day. This does not mean we don't share progressive and well-thought through ideas - please come ready to share, listen and be part of a new chapter.....
