Our theme for the first Book Club of 2021 is Managing Conflict, centering on Amanda Ripley's High Conflict.
As product leaders, we need to engage in all kinds of conflict. Often, it is a healthy and necessary path to the right outcome, but sometimes it can lead to a complete breakdown of trust and relationships.
High Conflict is what happens when discord distills into a good-versus-evil kind of feud, the kind with an us and a them. In this state, the normal rules of engagement no longer apply. The brain behaves differently. We feel increasingly certain of our own superiority and, at the same time, more and more mystified by the other side.
However, people do escape high conflict. Individuals—even entire communities—can short-circuit the feedback loops of outrage and blame... if they want to.
In High Conflict, Amanda takes us around the world to understand how people learn to stop demonising the other side and start agreeing to disagree productively.

We're a group of people who get together every two months to discuss a Product Management book. It's fun, friendly and relaxed, with an emphasis on the themes of each book, sharing stories from our own experiences and getting to know other Product Managers in Sydney.
