Hi! I’m Katie and I’m super excited to educate others on all things tech and careers with TSW! As a self-taught developer, I learned a lot of my CS knowledge from the great resources online and I hope we can help others learn, gain a deeper understanding, and upskill :)
I’m a software engineer in finance, working in java-based development of high frequency trading applications. Prior to this, I was a chemical engineer for several years - during a plant expansion where I assisted with creating control logic I caught the programming bug and decided to hop careers after realizing I enjoyed going home to code and design applications more than my day job. I am active in several tech communities to learn and share knowledge, one of the great things I love about this industry!
Outside work, I enjoy playing games, going on walks, ballet and cardio dance, and being a plant mama :)

Hey, I’m Zahra and I am part of Tech Skills Workshops. We are a friendly group of girls who are passionate about transferring the knowledge, tips and tricks we have each picked up along our journeys into tech. 😊
I entered the tech field in a slightly roundabout way - I studied Biology and work within the field of Bioinformatics. It sounds fancy, but just means I get to combine my passion for biology with that of coding. Bioinformatics utilizes some of the latest technology to store, process and interpret huge amounts of biological data. Currently, I am part of a team that works to archive and mobilise the genetic data of SARS-CoV-2.
In my spare time I enjoy creating tech workshops/talks for the community. It is a great way to give back, and I am passionate about making coding topics less daunting and more fun, especially for beginners.
Outside of this, I love practicing karate (even before Cobra Kai became a popular show ;) ), painting and generally just trying new activities outside of my comfort zone. I think it’s the best way to grow!
