Using Speech Recognition & Natural Language for Mobile Self-Service

Abstract Customers are downloading applications at a rapid rate. Mobile apps are also an increasingly important channel for customer service. The proliferation of voice-enabled assistants, and an increasing expectation of self service, is making consumers comfortable asking a device, rather than a person, for information in a very intelligent, conversational way. These increased consumer expectations are driving organizations to find new ways to engage with customers. Nuance will discuss these trends and how companies can leverage virtual assistant and other technologies to increase customer satisfaction and drive differentiation with their mobile applications. Bio Troy joined Nuance as the Director of Mobile Enterprise as part of the recent Vlingo acquisition. At Vlingo, as the VP of Sales, Americas and Asia, he was responsible for establishing and managing Vlingo's customer relationships including mobile carriers, device manufacturers, and developers. Troy brings a wealth of experience from a diverse set of companies in the telecommunication industry ranging from optical networking to mobile applications. Prior to Vlingo, he was responsible for business development and channel creation at VoIP technology supplier Sylantro Systems. Troy started his career with AT&T where he concentrated on product development and technology planning of the carrier's enhanced services portfolio. In 2000, he left AT&T to concentrate on his love of negotiating and managing business development deals for technology companies. Since that time, Troy has held business development and sales responsibilities at Comverse, OSS supplier Syndesis, and broadband startup CoreExpress. Today, Troy spends most of his time evangelizing Nuance’s next generation mobile products including NINA, the newly announced mobile virtual assistant for customer service. Troy holds a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from Texas A&M University and currently resides in San Antonio, TX.
