In the April meetup of Turku.ai on 25.4. we take a look at the new field of quantum machine learning. We are going to hear two talks from expert researchers, Peter Wittek and Sabrina Maniscalco.
Peter Wittek obtained his PhD from the National University of Singapore.
He is the Academic Director of the Quantum Machine Learning Initiative
in the Creative Destruction Lab in the University of Toronto. His
research explores the synergies between artificial intelligence, machine
learning, quantum information, and high-performance computing. He
published the book "Quantum Machine Learning: What Quantum Computing Means to Data Mining", the first monograph on the subject. He has been deeply involved in entrepreneurship and he works on incubating startups that use quantum technologies for machine learning.
Sabrina Maniscalco is the Chair of Theoretical Physics at the University of Turku and an adjunct professor at Aalto University. She is also the leader of the Turku Quantum Technologies group (tqt.fi) and the vice-director of the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Quantum Technologies. Her research activity focuses on quantum physics and the fundamentals of quantum technology. This has the potential to revolutionise several fields in technology and society at large. The entanglement of quantum states and quantum superpositions open up unprecedented possibilities for, for example, ultra-fast computing and unbreakable encryption techniques. Sabrina Maniscalco is also known as an avid communicator and devoted to popularising science. She has, among other things, created and co-organised the Turku Science Cafe (sciencecafeturku.wordpress.com) and the Quantum Game Jams.
We are hosted by Silo.AI at Werstas, 4th floor. The time is the familiar 6pm.
