True collaboration and buy-in through Deep Democracy

Many organisations, whether they are going through Agile transformation, or are Agile by design, are looking to create and maintain an environment where self-organising teams collaborate well. Often the want to have teams work in new ways is strong but teams, leaders and coaches can slide into old, familiar ways of operating. Just a few years ago, the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy, which grew out of the complex transformation of Post-Apartheid South Africa in the mid 1990s, and used in many sectors in over 22 countries since that time, was found by an agile coach and seen as a tangible roadmap to actually get teams self-organising, thriving and psychologically safe. The toolkit is designed to make it safer for people to say what needs to be said so that:
- People feel that they are genuinely heard which lowers levels of resistance to decisions made and gains buy-in to decisions and innovations
- Ways to work collaborate without being bogged down/held back by tension by resolving moment to moment tension (rather than solely waiting until tensions and conflict has progressed/become stuck)
In this highly interactive session you’ll get to experience three of the practical tools and a fresh diagnostic tool, to assess levels of safety in your organisation (Resistance Line) from the Lewis Method of Deep Democracy, and walk with insights on how and why to use them.
