tmux night

Jun 25, 2013 · London, United Kingdom

The theme for this meetup is tmux. Forward is kindly supplying pizza and beer. There should be enough pizza to go around, but you know how these things go: the early bird catches the worm. Here's a rough schedule:

  • 18:30 - Pizza delivery, courtesy of Forward
  • 19:15 - Introduction and book raffle
  • 19:30 - An introduction to tmux, by Jack Franklin
  • 19:50 - Tmux copy mode, by Claudio Ortolina
  • 20:00 - A testing triumvirate: tmux+turbux+tslime, by Matt Southerden
  • 20:30 - To the pub!

This event is also listed on Lanyrd, but RSVPs are handled here by meetup.

An introduction to tmux - Jack says "I'm going to give you a whirlwind tour of the very basic usage of tmux: creating new sessions, windows and split panes, which covers about 90% of my daily tmux usage."

Jack is a Ruby & JavaScript developer along with being a Computer Science student at the University of Bath. He runs the popular JS blog javascriptplayground.com and maintains a blog of Vim tips at tilvim.com, along with running the weekly web development podcast upfrontpodcast.com. When not at a computer he's usually found in the pub, like any good student.

Tmux copy mode - Claudio will show us how to copy and paste text in a tmux session, using copy mode.

Claudio works as a full stack web developer at New Bamboo. When he's not coding, he's probably cooking. When he's not cooking, he's probably eating what he cooked.

A testing triumvirate: tmux+turbux+txlime - it may sound complex, but this combination of Vim+tmux makes for a dream workflow for test-driven development.

BONUS! We have a couple of copies to give away of the tmux book, signed by the author Brian Hogan.
