About the Topic:
Technology is often perceived as competition for manufacturing jobs; however, framing its adaptation as complementary helps foster a space for collaboration. Assistive technology such as 3D visualization software, project management applications, and product development tools have been utilized for decades. Now, we are seeing the emergence of more immersive solutions to complement these digital trends.
Virtual reality training and augmented reality instructions can help keep older manufacturing systems relevant by offering easier and more accessible information and the ability to actively learn while performing incredibly intricate tasks. Productivity increases as expert employees no longer need to allocate their time for training. New recruits can begin actively learning these skills in virtual reality or on physical equipment with an augmented digital overlay. VR and AR can also assist with aspects of onboarding staff. Uses cases have already been developed for safety training and procedures, warehouse walkthroughs and navigation, and much more.
“‘Smart Manufacturing’ sector is forecasted to grow at 15% CAGR, reaching $150 Billion by 2022,” (mindtree). Remote collaboration, support, or design review can all be enhanced with real-time, immersed interactions. Digital twins can be used to help people navigate a space, access assistance, or have virtual walkthroughs.
Join us on August 4th to learn from experts about ways in which immersive technology is revolutionizing Manufacturing.
What's The Format:
We suggest that you download, set-up, get familiar with the Virbela program (virbela.com/download) and environment prior to the Meetup, as we will be unable to provide support during the event. The event will be hosted in the Open Campus, Conference Hall.
The virtual environment resembles a physical space, so you will be able to talk with other attendees prior to the start of the presentations. The sound is spatialized, so if at any point it feels too loud, feel free to move your conversation to another part of the room where there are less people.
We begin with informal networking and then start the stage portion promptly at 6:15pm CDT. There will be a handful of presentations before we move on to answer audience questions and then finish with more networking. We keep it simple and informal - this program is about you, our members, and not the host or presenters. Come and get your questions answered, take your next step into immersive technology.
6:00-6:15pm - Networking & Preparation
6:15-6:30pm - Introductions & Welcome
6:30-7:30pm - Panel Discussion and Q&A
