Prototyping for the real world
Kristof Houben | CityLife
Prototyping is an essential part of our workflow. Finding out what customers want and what they actually need is a challenging exercise. As designers we should stop making prototypes that look great and we should face the harsh reality of how our product is used. Finding ways to validate assumptions in a quick way is essential to making great decisions. I'm going to talk about the fairy tale world we as designers sometimes put ourselves in. While going through my toolset I shall try to put both our feet back on the ground.
Kristof is the lead product designer at CityLife. Our goal is to create a digital loyalty platform enabling local shop owners to engage with their customers. He's in charge of finding the balance between an easy to use product and an interesting tool for merchants. In the past he worked for Mobile Vikings and a small but cosy web agency called Yappa. He strongly believes designers should be able to code.
Unboring Service Design with Craft & Creativity
Roy Van Dijk | Kraftwerk
This talk takes a look at the emerging role of service design and how creativity can make a difference. With business models changing rapidly, focus is shifting from product to services and brands are looking for new ways to strengthen the relationship they have with people.
Roy Van Dijk from Achtung! & Kraftwerk explores how service design can create an emotional connection using creativity & craft. He will focus on the importance of good insights, storytelling creativity, prototyping and awesome execution. With a show and tell of work-in-progress, final pieces and inspiring work from others.
On a day to day basis I am a designer that frown’s upon shit user experiences and I therefore live to make things that look good and work great. Currently doing this as a Senior Designer at Achtung! Amsterdam and in the form of the occasional project on the side.
I have lived in Stockholm for two years, during which time I had the privilege to graduate from Hyper Island and work with a talented bunch at Fantasy Interactive.
During my time as a designer, I have been able to do my ‘thing’ with some pretty bad-ass companies like Wacom, Volkswagen, EA, Orangina, Eneco, Sony, Google, Nickelodeon, Channel 4, Discovery Networks and more.
