Title: Deep Learning for Early Cancer Detection from Laser Scattering Profiles
Mason Acree is a founding member of UVU’s Laboratory for Advanced Imaging Research (LAIR), which is currently investigating novel methodologies for early cancer detection. The group has collected thousands of optical scattering images from a near-infrared diode laser, incident on cancerous cell monolayers, and has been using a convolutional neural network for classification of images from varying cancer lines.
This talk will focus on the practical use of deep learning in the physical sciences, with discussion of other applications in medical physics. Mason will discuss the unique augmentation techniques required by the low-volume, variable-controlled data collected during this project.
