SRECon Dublin takes place August 30th through September 1st. If you're arriving early, let's get together for food and drink and to meet some of the local SREs in Dublin. We'll also have a talk, described below.
Microservices on Kubernetes in a Datacenter:
As the engineering teams at Squarespace grow, we have been building more and more microservices. However, this has added operational strain as we try to shoehorn a growing, complex dynamic environment into our static data center infrastructure. We needed to rethink how we handle deployments, dependency management, resource allocation, monitoring, and alerting. Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration helps us tackle many of these problems, but the journey has been challenging. In this talk, we’ll discuss the challenges of running Kubernetes in a datacenter and how we switched to a more SLA-focused alert structure than per instance health with Prometheus and AlertManager.
Kevin Lynch is a software engineer in the Site Reliability Engineering team at Squarespace. He received his BSc and MSc degrees in Computer Science from Drexel University. During his time there he worked on a variety of different projects including processor design, source code transformation, and autonomic computing.
For capacity planning reasons, you must RSVP to be allowed into the building, and you must have a valid photo ID. We'll be accepting registrations until space fills.
The event will be held on Tuesday, August 29th at Squarespace's Dublin office at Le Pole House, 1st Floor, Ship Street Great, Dublin 8. Doors open and food will be served at 6 PM, and talks start at 6:30 PM.
