Dan Shaw (NodeSource):  How Node.js is Transforming Engineering... and Why

Node.js over the past few years has gone from an esoteric platform to a platform which powers some of the most important enterprise companies in the world. We’ll explore some of the places this transformation is taking place, how these teams are implementing Node and why this is happening. Node.js is transforming engineering organizations, but it is not necessarily taking over. We’ll see why that’s not a bad thing. Node is driving innovation and accelerating teams. It is a perfect fit for modern user experience driven, software as a service projects where responsiveness and iteration are critical.

Santhosh Srinivasan (Cloudera): Life with Apache

Apache is almost synonymous with open source these days. From the days of Apache Ant and Apache Tomcat to Apache Hadoop and Apache ZooKeeper, its an alphabet soup of projects. How does an engineer and an engineering manager work in the Apache world? Code over community, half life of a developer are some of the customs that one needs to understand and follow. This talk will discuss some of these norms that one has to understand to ship code.
Santhosh Srinivasan has been a part of the Apache community for more than half a decade. He is a committer and PMC member on Apache Pig. He has had the fortune of being an engineer and an engineering manager of projects built completely in open source. Currently, he is a director of engineering at Cloudera.

Gregory Prisament (Canopy Link) - Lightning Talk: How OSS will transform IoT engineering

Open source software will soon transform the way Internet of Things devices are developed and consumed.  Today, vertically-integrated products (like the Nest and Philips Hue) dominate the IoT consumer market.  Open source software will create a lively IoT ecosystem where app developers and manufacturers can specialize in what they do best.

The meet up will take place in the beautiful SAP campus in Palo Alto, more specifically in the Cafeteria of Building 1 - not Cafeteria 3 as before. Feel free to bring your laptops, we will provide seating & tables.
