Speaker Series on Indigenous Issues and Initiatives Online

Apr 13, 2022 · ,
Implementing UNDRIP with Prof. Brenda Gunn

The series is devoted to emerging policy issues that affect First Nation, Métis, Inuit, and urban Indigenous peoples in Canada. Speakers come from a wide range of backgrounds and institutions, including Indigenous, academic, government and not-for-profit organizations. Presentations are followed by informal Q & A sessions allowing for in-depth discussion.

On June 21st, 2021, the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act received Royal Assent and came into force. Similar laws are being passed at other levels of government as called for by Call to Action 43 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. All laws will need to conform to it. How can a declaration come into practice? Prof. Brenda Gunn of the University of Manitoba and the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation has been thinking about this for a long time. She’ll join us on Wednesday, April 13 to discuss the mechanics of how UNDRIP can be implemented.

Join PPF and curator and co-host Caitlin Tolley for the Speaker Series on Indigenous Issues and Initiatives as we explore UNDRIP and what different levels of government need to think about to put it into place.

Register for this free session that runs from 12 – 1 p.m. EST.
