A set of workshops developed by a teacher, an education strategist & students 
This full day event will help you develop ideas and skills to use social and digital media as part of your Continuing Professional Development. You will attend two workshops on the day. From these, you will gain a holistic introduction to essential digital communicatin skills and a comprehensive online digital toolkit to help you turn your ideas into action! Both sessions will also focus on e-safety and will help you separate your personal and professional lives.

What you'll learn:
Workshop 1: Essential Digital Communications
Facilitated by Abhay Adhikari (PhD, Digital Education Strategist)
- Select the right social media website
- Promote your school and showcase best practice
- Explore how others are using social media (including Facebook groups)
- Create new learning content for your students
- Protect and separate your online personal and professional lives
- Reach out to parents and the local community
Workshop 2: Create your Online Digital Toolkit
Facilitated by Nick Jackson (MSc, Head of ICT at Fulford) 
- Learn how to use a range of social networks
- Develop ideas to collaborate with educators and students online
- Plan lessons, homework, assessment and learning content on Google+
- Become effective consumers of information online   
- Explore how students use social media to develop their online identity
Who Should Attend:
Teachers and SLTs (FE/Secondary/Primary)
Educators working with young adults between 11-18
About the facilitators:
Abhay Adhikari (PhD) develops digital engagement strategies for the arts, culture and education sectors. He has worked on a range of global web based projects with private, public and voluntary sector organisations including BBC World Service Trust, British Council and Zubaan.  He helped set up the 'Thoughts Become Things' enterprise programme for schools in North Yorkshire that involved over 600 secondary school students. He has also delivered digital literacy workshops for teachers, students and parents in India and the UK.

Nick Jackson (MSc) is the Head of ICT at Fulford School. He works closely with students and teachers to integrate digital resources with everyday teaching methods and practices. Nick has also spearheaded a series of innovative projects within his school, nationwide and regularly participates in national and international events. This includes running conferences, Digital Leaders schemes, involvement in Teachmeets and has worked closely with/for Education Authorities and exam boards. His work has brought in sponsorship from Microsoft, Toshiba and Vital.

Student facilitator: Mikey Carr is a sixth form student heavily involved in the Digital Leaders scheme at Fulford school. In the past 2 years, he has completed several projects that focus on digital technology and education. He is also organising the Teach The Teachers Meet in York. He has experience of bridging the gap between teaching, learning and technology by including the perspectives of students and teachers.
