Sep 18, 2012 · Raleigh, United States of America

You are cordially invited to the next meeting of the Triangle SQL Server User Group to be held on September 18 at TEK Systems in Raleigh, NC from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
Triad SQL Server User Group leader and SQL Server expert Kevin Goode will present:
SQL Server Internals - Indexes
Learn how SQL Server Indexes work from the inside out. This session will explain what a B+Tree index is and how it is structured on data pages. We will look at the differences in how a clustered index and a non-clustered index is stored and accessed. Then we will dig a little deeper and use some DBCC commands to look at data pages to see the difference in a leaf level page and intermediate pages. Finally we will find out if a clustered index is truly stored in row order.
Kevin is the manager of Database Services at Inmar and the chapter leader of the Triad PASS chapter. He has 16 years of IT experience; 13 years of which has been SQL Server focused starting with version 6.5. He has worked in many industries including manufacturing, distribution and logistics, financial services, IT outsourcing and has worked for several fortune 500 companies. His specialties include SQL Server development, Performance Tuning, Business Intelligence, and ETL. He is currently focused on SANs, virtualization, multi-server administration and PowerShell.
