Security Testing: The why, how and what - Part 2

Sep 5, 2017 · Belfast, United Kingdom

Session Topic: Making Threat Modelling Useful

Kick-off: Allan Hunter @ 6.00pm

Main speaker: Simon Whittaker from Vertical Structure (http://vsltd.co/SecurityTestingMeetup)

Simon is a highly experienced consultant penetration tester, member of OWASP and active member of the local technology community. When he isn't working directly with customers improving their security practises he can be found running security courses for IT professionals, speaking at various local meet-ups on security or running code clubs for children.

Making Threat Modelling Useful @ 6.30pm

This session will start with a quick talk covering the subject of threat modelling. Simon will discuss with the group:

• What is threat modelling and why you don't need to be a security expert to do it

• Why and when we should testers use it

• How it can be easily and quickly accomplished with an agile approach

This will be followed by the main part of the evening, a hands on workshop where we will get into groups and perform some threat modelling using our trusty friends; pen and paper!

Wash up & close out (approx 8pm): Allan Hunter

Food and drink will be kindly sponsored by Olenick

For anyone interested in Software Testing from any aspects of the Software Engineering discipline AND happen to be around Belfast, Northern Ireland then this is the group for you. We'll do things with a bit of a lean coffee style approach so we don't have any particular set agendas but instead we democratically decide this. As we progress, we'll include talks / evenings / events etc. Talk to us on our Slack Group! Get invited here!
