Reproducibility in Data Science

Aug 8, 2017 · St. Louis, United States of America

Speaker: Leslie McIntosh, PhD

What is the big deal regarding reproducibility of scientific work?

How can data science and machine learning be part of the solution to some of the problems?

This talk will be an overview of the current state of the reproducibility crisis currently affecting many scientific fields as well as an overview of how machine learning, informatics, and statistics are providing solutions. I will walk through one or two scenarios of where we have developed and applied techniques to improve reproducibility within my group.

MeetUp Notes: We will have a short part to introduce the leadership for this (academic) year.
(Spoiler: After many years of dedication to the group, Leslie will be moving to a supporting role as she takes on a new job.)
