Religion And The Failure Of Politics

May 17, 2012 · Greater London, United Kingdom

Simon Hughes MP has agreed to host a meeting in the House of Commons to discuss if the signs of religious revival both nationally and globally are related to failure in the secular world of politics.
What is the “proper” relationship between religion and politics in today’s world and is the re-emergence of religious groups and indeed religious fundamentalism both nationally and globally the result of the failure of the secular world to make a difference through politics. Has politics failed leading to a vacuum that is now being filled by new religious groups, fundamentalists and demands for spiritual wakening? In this environment how can politics be made to matter again and what is the responsibility of politicians?

We will be doing this in partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University and their “Make Politics Matter Initiative.” We hope this will be one on several events (meetings and global webinars) that we hold around the theme of Belief and Politics.
Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay a subscription of £10 for a whole year that covers attendance not just to one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. It also allows you to bring one guest free to every meeting or webinar.
