Diversity in Product Management

This month we're looking at the the benefits of Diversity and how we can get more of it - hearing from heavyweight speakers who have made progress and how they did it.

This ProductTank has been curated by Rosemary King, Director of Training Products at Mind the Product. Say hello on Twitter (https://twitter.com/RozemaryKing) or LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/in/rosemaryelizabethking/).

This month's speakers are:

Andy Ayim (Entrepreneur in Residence at Entrepreneur First)

Andy is a London based Product Manager or Founder depending when you speak to him. He is passionate about improving Tech inclusion and sharing stories about founders and investors from diverse backgrounds.

He's going to share with us his views on the core reasons we have a lack of diversity in tech, why it's important to make product more diverse and some actionable steps we can all take to make inclusive teams.

Roisi Proven (Head of Product Delivery at Honeycomb.tv)

Honeycomb.tv is a company dedicated to providing supercharged video advertising delivery for broadcasters and agencies all over the world.

Over the past decade working in agile environments, Roisi has seen agile done well sometimes, and done badly a lot. She is passionate about process and loves learning new ways to make things better.

Her talk will cover compartmentalised empathy - the skill of supporting others without losing yourself.

Roisi loves cats and hates talking about herself in the third person.

Özlem Yuce (Consultant Chief Product Officer)

Özlem is a passionate, highly skilled and knowledgeable product consultant who leverages modern management principles, practices and methods. By influencing the way people think and act in the complex environment of product development, she enables organisations to innovate faster.

Less than 30% of staff at Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Intel, Microsoft and Twitter are women. Less than 5% are Black or Hispanic. Consider though, what proportion of the users of these companies' products are women, Black or Hispanic?
Perhaps it would help to have those voices better represented on the teams that are developing these products? Perhaps having more diversity on our teams would also help us come up with solutions to the complex problems we face? In this talk Özlem will discuss why diversity is crucial in product management and what we can do about it.
