Mar 27, 2019 · Portland, United States of America

Join us for our monthly gathering to discuss everything from incident response to cross-team collaboration to automation frameworks. Food provided. Please RSVP!

A Long Day's Journey Into Backups

This is a story of the journey taken to have effective, safe backups in customer environments. Part history (four separate solutions implemented), part prescriptivism (use the cheaper storage solution, my GOD use the cheaper storage solution), part actual technical solutions (tar, S3, NFS/EFS), let's talk about the thousand solutions we tried, and what is really and truly working for the company and for me (and you!), the operations engineer.

Ryan McKern does some stuff with software for a Big Ol’ Social Coding website you might use, and he’s reviewed a whole lot of really bad patch sets across his career (he probably wrote a few of them). He’s on Twitter at @the_mckern and he’d love to hear about your hottest takes about comic books or reviewing code effectively.
