Hacktoberfest is upon us, so it's time for us to whip out those pull requests and earn our free t-shirts! If that's all gibberish to you, have no fear - Jo will be sharing with us her crash course on becoming an open source contributor, whatever your skill set. While focusing on the WordPress ecosystem, you can transfer most of these skills and resources to pretty much any Open Source community.

Jo Minney runs a web development agency (House Digital) in Perth, Western Australia. She has managed the Perth WordPress Meetups for the past year and a half, and has been a regular presenter on a range of topics from Security to Page Speed at both local meetups and WordCamps whenever she can get to them. Jo is also an advisor with the ASBAS program run through Business Station which offers consulting and workshops that are heavily subsidised by government funding.

Jo also helps facilitate an organisation called SheCodes - Formerly Perth{web}Girls - that is aimed at getting more girls into the web industry, and wrote the WordPress tutorial that has been completed by around 300 women over the past year. With a background in process engineering and software development, Jo is a strong advocate for developing better user experiences and pushing the boundaries of what WordPress can do.
