NOTE: Please sign-in via the form below by April 19th to be considered. Thank you!

Back by popular demand, Metis San Francisco will be hosting “One Day at Bootcamp” to give you a chance to see what the experience is really like! You’ll receive free, interactive training in beginner-level Python from Senior Data Scientist at Metis, Robert Alvarez

The curriculum is designed for those with zero prior exposure to Python and the data science stack for Python.

- 10:00 - 10:30 - Setup and Orientation

- 10:30 - 12:00 - Python Basics

- 12:00 - 1:00 - One Hour Break

- 1:00 - 1:30 - Python Exercises

- 1:30 - 2:30 - Group Python Project - Text Reader

- 2:30 - 3:00 - Group Presentations

The first 1.5 hours will introduce the basics of Python, focusing on the portions of Python that are most essential to using the language in a practical way.

Midway, we'll break for one hour. Lunch will not be provided, but there are plenty of great options nearby in the area.

After lunch, we'll reconvene and focus on hands-on learning by working on various exercises with Python. Finally, you’ll build a small project that works with text data, loading files, cleaning strings, etc. to find what words are the most common in a document.

A laptop with Anaconda installed.

About the Metis Instructor:

Robert has data science experience in companies both large and small. At Intel, he used his knowledge to tackle problems in data center optimization using cluster analysis, enrich market sizing models by implementing sentiment analysis from social media feeds, and improving decision making in one of the top 5 global supply chains. At Tamr, he built models to unify large amounts of messy data across multiple silos for some of the largest corporations in the world. He earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Arizona State University where his research spanned image reconstruction, mathematical epidemiology and oncology. Robert is an Adjunct Professor at the Leavey School of Business where he teaches Data Science and Machine Learning. In his spare time, he is a rum judge, avid traveler, and eater of all things coconut.
