ProductTank PDX's fall meetup features two great speakers and is hosted at eBay! If you can't make it to this one, look for our next meetup early next year.
Kristen Gallagher, Founder of Edify
When Your Product is a Program
So many times in product development, we think of our work as building toward an end: a specific product with finite edges and known quantities. But what happens when your product has to morph every quarter? What happens when the inputs change regularly? What happens when it has to rapidly scale with no additional resources? In this talk (more experience than talk...) we'll draw comparisons between the "traditional" product and the program product and learn some ways to use programmatic wisdom back in the traditional product world.
Kristen Gallagher is a learning designer and organizational strategist. She's pretty interested in helping tech companies create systems and cultures that don't suck - which she mostly does by helping them learn how to learn. She currently serves as the Internal Learning Manager at Elemental and the founder and owner of Edify Education Design. When she's not working, she spends her time reading nonfiction about learning, knitting stuff, sewing stuff, and working on found-object sculptures.
Tyesha Snow, Head of Product at MobileRQ
Finding harmony in the dissonant needs of everyone
Product management is a beautiful art. If you are lucky enough to hold this job you understand how complicated it can be to make the call on new feature requests. This is especially true when working on enterprise software and these requests are from customers. In this talk Tyesha will provide you with a set of questions you can use to start the evaluation process. These methods will support you in the consideration period and help you weigh the impact on your Product, the Business and your Customers.
Tyesha has spent more than a decade imagining, creating and shaping interactive experiences and software products as a user experience practitioner and product designer. She’s worked with some of the world’s largest agencies and many small and mighty creative groups to create brand affinity for Fortune 500 companies in multiple industries. She is a active member of the start up community in both Portland and Boulder having created her own companies and working as an advisor and mentor for other companies and individuals. She is currently Head of Product at MobileRQ and continues to freelance consult on user experience and tech product design projects. “I’m really excited about the future of product management as the trend towards design leadership raises. The tools of a designer and methods of design thinking are bringing a new level of user-centric software products to the world. This shift is notable and I’m proud to be part of this next wave."
