Now, I know why Agile works! with Peter McCurdy

May 3, 2018 · Calgary, Canada

In Charles Duhigg’s book “Smarter Faster Better”, he outlines a series of observations that enable organizations to become highly productive. Interestingly, the Agile framework even when applied outside software development drives teams to exhibit the same observations Duhigg’s presents in his book. His eight observations relate to motivating individuals, identifying the characteristics of high performing teams, keeping focused, setting goals, managing others, effective decision making, enabling innovation, and transforming data into knowledge.

This session will walk through each of the Duhigg’s eight observations and illustrate how they are present in the Agile framework. The participants will learn how the Scrum Master can ensure these characteristics are present in the team so it becomes smarter, faster and better.

Peter is a passionate Project Manager who leverages his projects to improve the capability of the organization. As a Sr. Manager at General Dynamics, he built and led a team of 80 software engineers. As leader of the IT PMO at CP Rail he introduced performance metrics for assessing projects. While at Nortel he led several large scale projects and established processes and metrics to measure development team progress. At SMART Technologies, he instituted a process for delivery of integrated hardware/software solutions. As a consultant, he coached several software development companies on Agile. Currently, he is the Sr. Release and Process Manager at QuirkLogic where he is establishing multi-disciplinary program management processes and coaching its hardware development team on Agile.
