The focus this month is on Networking & Security.
Presentation #1 - Beyond the Network Security
Ken Huang who is a Senior Security Architect and Director of Security Engineering at CGI Federal will provide his perspective on network security. He will briefly discuss why we need to have network security and what are the common tools used for network security. He will then discuss why network security alone is not enough to protect us from hackers. He will present the defense in depth nature of cyber security and some minimum security controls needed for any kind of on line applications. He will also present an approach to integrate the security into SDLC. If time permits, he will talk about the current DHS's effort in Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) Program which will be used to strength the cyber security inside federal and state government's network.
Presentation #2 - Don't Blame Me, It's a Networking Problem
Joel Nylund, Managing Partner at Solution Street, will discuss different roles (developer, SA, network engineer) and their interpretation of networking problems, common problems and how to troubleshoot them.
The presenters will each give a short 10 - 15 minute presentation and provide a brief overview of the technology and a technical problem to solve. At the end of each presentation, the audience will take turns deciding on what is the best strategy to use. A panel of experts will also give their take on what they feel is the best solution to the problem.
