Turning ideas into businesses with Brad Rees

Mar 2, 2022 · Perth, Australia

Brad Rees is a serial entrepreneur having now launched a number of products including Rain Parrot (a hyper-local weather app that notifies you when it's about to rain), Power Tools (a range of Shopify tools), the Micromatic (a microwave with a thermal camera for better cooking precision) and Peeps (an app to help you remember names).

Some of his projects have gone on to be incredibly popular #1 apps, while others have failed despite showing promising early signals.

Although he doesn't claim to have all the answers as each story seems to contradict the other, Brad has developed a knack for identifying unrealised opportunities, executing well, and knowing when to keep going, and when to give up.

In fact, he's right in the thick of it again launching a new communication tool called 'Speakeasy', and is working with his team to get some invaluable early traction.

In this session, Brad will share his stories around validating and launching products, and touch on learnings such as:
1\. How to 'really' put yourself in the customer's shoes\.
2\. Why not all obvious solutions to common problems can be businesses\.
3\. People often don't 'get' an idea until they see the product\.
4\. Early traction is everything\, except for when it isn't\.
5\. Ways to identify when to move on or keep pushing\.
6\. Why you should ignore everything he says\.

We're sure many of his stories will resonate with you and hopefully provide some guidance or inspiration for the next big step for your startup.

About Brad
Brad Rees is a Perth-based serial startup founder and engineer, with a passion for helping to simplify people's lives.

From getting caught out in the rain, to forgetting people's names, not burning your mouth on a hot pocket, to trying to organise a group video call, Brad has worked on solutions that help get the job done in as few steps as possible.

Brad now runs a boutique startup incubator to help bring these ideas to market - Hustle. Hustle is home to Rain Parrot, Power Tools, the Micromatic, Peeps and its latest project is Speakeasy.

Speakeasy is a communications tool for setting up ad-hoc chats and meetings, enabling seamless discussion, collaboration and file sharing between your team and theirs. Think Slack cross with Zoom and you're halfway there.
