Monthly Meetup: Full Stack TypeScript apps with Angular and NestJS

Oct 8, 2018 · Madison, United States of America

TypeScript has been the primarily language used for Angular apps since Angular 2 adopted it a couple years ago. It offers many advantages over plain JavaScript, such as compile time type checking, IDE auto completion, early error detection, and gives us the latest JavaScript features we can use now. But did you know you can also use TypeScript to create server side apps as well? You bet! NestJS is a Node web framework that uses modern language features (via TypeScript) to create efficient, reliable, and scalable web apis. NestJS borrows many features from other libraries that makes it easy to reason about and figure out how things should be put together.

In this talk, we will go over the ins and outs of creating a web api using NestJS and TypeScript on Node, and how to tie into it using an Angular app. We will go over why TypeScript is a good choice for your Node app, and how to use modern application design to improve your code quality and reduce code complexity. We will discuss the advantages you can get by using the same language for both your front end and back end, such as sharing code between the apps. Time permitting, we might even take a peak at how easy it is to deploy these types of apps to the cloud using Azure.
