Meetup #32: streaming, rendering and 60fps

Apr 24, 2018 · Beograd, Serbia

It's time for our 32nd meetup. This time we'll go to the office of our friends United Cloud, for following two presentations:

1. Streaming in HTML5 by Nemanja Krivokapić ( [talk, 30 minutes]

Streaming in HTML5 will introduce you into the world of DASH streaming through HTML5 capable Browser. We'll go through the concepts of streaming, adaptive streaming, DASH protocol, MP4 encapsulation of H.264. Our showcase will use HTML5 MSE API to fetch, process and render H.264 video provided by the United Cloud platform.

Nemanja started as a PHP junior shipping different custom CMS solutions in CodeIgniter. He loves to understand stack he's working on from bare metal to architecture design. Through time evolved to high availability low latency application development in Java. Designed and implemented solutions that utilize AWS solutions, several PHP and Java frameworks, worked as a full-stack app developer. Currently exploring dungeons of OTT/IPTV core streaming solutions development.

2. From HTML to pixels on the Screen by Igor Talić ( [talk, 30 minutes]

This topic will cover how browsers parse HTML and CSS and how we get the end result on the screen. We will also be talking about performance when it comes to rendering and how to keep your app running at 60fps. The focus will be on transform 3D vs 2D, and how we can reduce repainting and understand layering.

Igor is a Senior Frontend Engineer at United Cloud working on SMARTTV apps. Even though he was doing Web development for 5 years, still the most interesting and fun things he has been working on are graphics programming and game programming, so he tries to read as much as he can in spare time about these two topics.

This meetup would not be possible without our friends from United Cloud.

United Cloud is the R&D center owned by United Group and they were established at the end of 2016. Their development team consists of more than 65 software engineers, and they are focused on developing innovative software products and services. Their first big project was developing end-to-end video streaming platform called EON. The whole system and all necessary applications used for watching video content have been developed in-house. They are constantly researching new technologies, such as IoT, VR, ML, Cloud Gaming and exploring possibilities for their practical and commercial use.
