Meetup #3 - Serving the overlords with HashiTools & Writing Terraform providers

Apr 7, 2016 · Amsterdam, Netherlands

Please note, there will be drinks but no food so eat something beforehand!

Jim Leitch - Feeding the Corporate Overlord: Self Serving Linux and Windows with Hashitools and Jenkins

While the cool kids are off being micro-service-ally and big-data-lly awesome,  some of us still have to provide the services our corporate overlords demand. This demo-heavy talk will show how to make use of Jenkins, Terraform and cloud technologies to provide the self-service that your corporate overlord didn’t even know s/he needed yet. We’ll definitely pay quite a bit of attention getting Windows 2012R2 to dance to our tune. No infrastructure was harmed in the making of this presentation and all code used will be available on GitHub.

Bio: Jim Leitch is originally from Scotland but has fed a fair number of corporate overlords over the last 21 years in The Netherlands. Luckily he knows where the best stroopwafels can be bought. He is co-organiser of the all-new JAMsterdam Jenkins Area Meetup.

Carlos Leon - Writing your own Terraform Provider

Terraform is a community driven project for managing your infrastructure. Currently it supports major providers like AWS, GCE, OpenStack, Heroku and many more. But if your provider is not yet supported and you're feeling enthusiast you can roll your own. I'll tell you how!

Bio: Carlos Leon is a Colombian nerd working in tech for 6 years. He works as a software engineer at Container Solutions writing systems to automate the provisioning, orchestration and scaling of bare metal and virtual infrastructures. He’s passionate about free flight (hang gliding), dreadlocks, clean code and life in general.  In love with Amsterdam (where he currently lives).

  • Amsterdam HashiCorp User Group

Welcome to the Amsterdam chapter of HashiCorp User Groups!  We host regular meetups with interesting talks around HashiCorp technology such as Vagrant, Packer, Terraform, Vault, Consul, Sentinel, and Nomad. Join us to learn from other HashiCorp fans on how to best use these tools in real-world use-cases and then share your own insights. And please: drop us a note if you want to host a meetup, present your ideas or just want to say "Hi!".  See you at the next meetup!
