Media New & Old – Providing Access For All.

Apr 22, 2013 · Greater London, United Kingdom

Austin Mitchell MP has agreed to host a meeting at the House of Commons on “Media New & Old – Providing Access For All.”
In March we produced a video called “Have I Got Tax For You” that explored in a humorous way the fact that in our present crisis the poor seem to pay and the very rich get away with it. We did this video with ApexTV as an InternetTV programme.
“Have I Got Tax For You Media Launch”
At this meetup we are going to launch this TV Programme and centre it on a discussion of how the New Media has given individuals and organisations greater access to diverse audiences and more freedom. We are going to explore how the media has changed in the last half a century and how the traditional media can link in with the new in a new era of communication.
Is the age of the New Media one where people can not only access and watch programmes but make and produce them as well? Does the Internet and the New Media herald a new age of communication equality?
Austin Mitchell. Many TV personalities have reinvented themselves as MPs but few have a more colourful tale to tell than veteran Labour backbencher Austin Mitchell. Austin has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Great Grimsby since a 1977 by-election.
The Great Grimsby MP, then a young politics lecturer, was an inescapable presence on New Zealand television in the early 1960s.Then he was a journalist at ITV company Yorkshire Television from 1969 to 1977, presenting their regional news show Calendar, although he spent a short period at the BBC in 1972. Mitchell supported the introduction of television cameras to the House of Commons, raising it for discussion in 1983.[2] The move opened the proceedings of the House to the wider public, who previously had only been able to follow via newspapers and, from 1978, radio.
Andrea Gordon will also be there. She is a writer/performer and conceived the idea of the programme and co -wrote/co- produced along with the team at ApexTV and GlobalNet21.
This is the first in our concept of exploring the big issues of the day from the ground level, cutting through the jargon to make information accessible and quick to pick up, then presenting them in TV style format.
Also we think a spoonful of chuckles along the way might help digest the sometimes unpalatable truth...!
Andrea will be on hand to answer questions both about the subject of the Video and media in general, as will Marc Barto, who's expertise in filming and his vision has helped guide this project so far.
Suhail Chughtai from ApexTV will also be joining us to speak as well.
