After an extended summer break we will be back in October with the tenth Manchester Internet of Things Meetup. Once again it will be hosted by Manchester Science Partnerships (http://mspl.co.uk) at the Bright Building on Pencroft Way. In addition to drinks and networking, there will also be the opportunity to hear from some of the people working on creative and innovative IoT projects in the North West. Speaking on the nigher will be:
Sarah Martin : Sarah is the Head of Innovation Programmes and Partnerships at Cisco, based in the Mi-IDEA innovation centre at MSP. Sarah will be talking about the connected bees project (https://www.mi-idea.com/connected-bees), which is tracking bees around Manchester using tiny RFID ‘bee backpacks’ and a network of sensors. This tiny technology allows researchers to analyse the effects of stress factors including disease, pesticides, air pollution, water contamination, diet and extreme weather on the movements of bees and their ability to pollinate.
Tim Panton : Tim is a WebRTC guru and founder/CTO at |pipe| (https://pi.pe) where he works on applying WebRTC standards to the Internet of Things. He will be bringing us up to date with his latest work in this area with a demonstration of how the technology can be used in peer-to-peer telepresence applications. The demo is based on an affordable Raspberry Pi/Picam droid so this is definitely one you can try at home.
