This presentation will focus on the intersection of early-warning systems and the Twitter platform. The central 'data story' we'll be discussing are the 2017 wildfires north of Los Angeles. Along the way, we'll dig into some data, attempt some live Twitter Platform demos and take a world tour of example early-warning systems. We'll also explore some recently announced Twitter APIs that are now available to developers.

Jim Moffitt (@snowman) is a Senior Partner Engineer at Twitter. He started working with Twitter data five years ago after becoming a Developer Advocate at Gnip. Using code examples, documentation, blog posts, and presentations, he enjoys his mission of helping clients with their Twitter API integrations. Before Twitter, Jim developed software for real-time weather monitoring and flood-warning systems. Jim has stayed involved with the early-warning community by advocating and demonstrating the use of Twitter for real-time communication and data exchange.
