Fun and Games

Apr 11, 2011 · London, United Kingdom
Tickets released at 1pm on Friday 1 April. This month we have two talks to whet your appetite for all things interactive and fun on the open web: Multiplayer gaming with HTML5: Are we ready? HTML5 gaming is on the rise. In this talk, Rob Hawkes (@robhawkes) explores some of the options available for creating multiplayer games using these new Web technologies. In it he hopes to answer some important questions, like how do you actually do it? And, are we even ready for multiplayer gaming with plugin-less technologies? Rob thrives on solving problems through code. He's addicted to visual programming, and can't get enough of HTML5 canvas. Most of his waking life is spent working on crazy projects involving all sorts of new and exciting technologies, both on-line and off. Aside from his practical work, Rob has written a book called "Foundation HTML5 Canvas", which is all about making games with the new Web technology. You should definitely pre-order it on Amazon! From June, Rob will be a Technical Evangelist for Mozilla. Creative JS visual effects Now that the open standards Canvas and SVG are available natively in all major browsers, JavaScript developers have much to learn about creative visual programming.  From particle systems to blending effects, optimised animations, gaming and good old maths creativity, Seb Lee-Delisle (@seb_ly) has more than a trick or two to share with us. If you’re interested in bringing a little visceral beauty to your websites, apps and games, then this is the session for you. Seb is one of the founders of Brighton-based Plug-in Media, who’ve won two Baftas and other awards for their innovative Flash creations. Recently, he’s been training JavaScript developers in creative animation and 3D Canvas techniques.
