Let's make a Swift app!

Aug 6, 2014 · San Francisco, United States of America

(Sorry that we have to skip a week, but this week we both have commitments).
Intermediate/advanced learners can build Swift apps based on the various resources that we shared (see below). We'd also like to start with a quick show & tell to see what new resources people like and recommend.
BEGINNERS (like me) will continue with the intro chapters (http://bit.ly/SwiftSF0001)
INTERMEDIATE: These are apps that people have liked in the past and we can work on them during the meetup:

1. A tip calculator app part 1, part 2 - This got the most positive reviews for learning Swift.
2. Create the Game of Life using Swift and SpriteKit = Also got excellent reviews as an exercise to learn Swift.
3. Swift app that uses the Twitter API - One group worked on this last time and probably will continue.
4. To-Do list - The To-Do list group can share if they have updates.
5. Pong - The pong group or person made fast progress at the last meetup and could share with us how he did it.
6. Turn your iPhone into a remote for Deckset presentations - this was suggested at an earlier meetup and was recommended
7. Lister: a list management app - this was suggested at an earlier meetup and was recommended
8. An RSS reader app- this was suggested at an earlier meetup and was recommended
9. A geolocation based alarm app for travelers = some people worked on this one and said that the instructions were spotty so there were some challenges.
Some beginners and first-timers worked on setting up Xcode 6 Beta 3 and continuing with the Intro to Swift book and playground.

Schedule:

6:00 pm: Networking & food

6:30 - 8:30 pm: Learn Swift together!
Please see resources that we have posted: http://www.meetup.com/Swift-SF/messages/boards/
A note on etiquette: This is a study group where we meet and loosely gather in groups of different levels to help each other out. Beginners can ask more advanced people for help and no question is a dumb question. We support and learn from each other, including learning through teaching.

Excited about Apple's new programming language, Swift? We are too! This group is primarily a study group where beginners and intermediate programmers learn and work together. Over the last 6 months, we have developed a rhythm and regular group. Currently we are testing 3-meetup sprints (3 meetups over 4 weeks) where groups start on a beginner or intermediate-level tutorial together and end t...
