We're aiming to create a data community for the city of Leeds, where likeminded people who use data everyday in their working lives can come together to network, share ideas, learn a few things and enjoy a beer or two. This is the first Leeds Data Thing event, where we hope the community will start to take shape.
At each event there will be plenty of opportunity to network and make connections with others working with data in our city. We'd love to see people attending from the following sectors:
Digital Marketing (Agencies and Clients)
Public Sector (Local Authority & NHS)
Finance & Banking
Universities & Colleges
Our first event focuses on the use of open source mapping tools in visualising data.
Confirmed Speakers are:
Andy Bolton - who will be talking about his work creating demographic maps of Leeds
Tim Waters: OpenStreetMap and other Geo Visualisations and Analytics
Tim will talk about the OpenStreetMap project - the free open data map of the world, and show some interesting visualisations based on the data. He will also show a selection of solutions for online geospatial analyses, introducing people to get started using theirs and others geodata on the web.
Leeds Data Thing would like to arrange regular Open Data Hack days during 2013. We'll use this event as a way of guaging interest in the hack days. Please let us know via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you'd be interested in hacking with Open Data and what your interest might be. We'd love to hear from you.
