Learning M Using the UI

Apr 19, 2018 · Perth, Australia

Power Query is a fabulous tool for cleansing and loading data into Power BI, Power Pivot and Excel. The UI is excellent and it lets you do almost everything you can imagine just by clicking on the menu options.  Yet under the hood of Power Query is a very powerful functional language called “M”.  There is currently no Intellisense supporting the M language in the UI, but you can learn a lot about how the language works by using the UI to teach you.  In this session I introduce the basics of the M language and demonstrate concepts on how to learn more as you write you queries.

BIO:  Matt Allington is a full time Power BI, Power Pivot and Power Query consultant living in Sydney Australia. He has been working with these tools for more than 4 years delivering live training, online training and remote consulting support to anyone that needs it around the world.  Matt is the author of the books “Supercharge Power BI” and “Learn to Write DAX”, and is a Microsoft Power BI MVP.

We're very fortunate to have Matt with us for April! Don't miss it :)
