Leadership & Trust In the 21st Century

As we live increasingly in a fast changing and diverse society that is both local and global leadership is crucial. The old top down hierarchical forms of leadership is outdated and unsustainable. So what are the styles and content of leadership needed for the 21st Century. we need leadership where trust is important. This will be the topic of this meetup. It will be on "Leadership In the 21st Century" and the growing debate around what leadership should be in a growing diverse society where change is rapid and new forms of public, private and voluntary organizations are developing. We are hoping to hold this meeting in partnership with The Institute of Leadership & Management because of their commitment and mission to develop new forms of leadership for the 21st Century and also because they are interested in what we do and the way in which we do it. The meeting is being hosted by, Ed Vaizey MP who is the Shadow Minister For Culture looking after arts and broadcasting policy.Born in 1968, Ed attended Merton College, Oxford. In 1996, he left the law, and became the director of a highly successful public relations company based in London. In 2004, he left to become the chief speechwriter for the then Leader of the Opposition, Michael Howard. Ed also built up a career as a freelance political commentator, writing regularly for The Guardian, and appearing on programmes such as Despatch Box and The Wright Stuff, as well as broadcasting frequently on Five Live. Ed is a board member of Edexcel, the exam board, where he looks after the interests of the Trident Trust, the largest work experience charity in the United Kingdom, which was taken over by Edexcel in 2006.He is also a Young Ambassador for the Samaritans. Other speakers include, David Pardey is the Senior Manager, Research & Policy for the Institute of Leadership & Management, Europe’s largest leadership and management qualification awarding organisation. David has responsibility for leading ILM’s research strategy, which is focussed on exploring the reality of leadership and management practice today – finding out what works and what doesn’t, what’s needed and what’s not - and how leaders and managers can best improve their performance. David writes widely in journals, magazines and websites on leadership and related themes; he has published several books on leadership and management, and is currently researching the reality of managerial decision-making practice. Janette Faherty Chief Executive of Avanta. Janette is the CEO of Avanta, and one of the UK's leading private sector employment-focused training and enterprise companies. Janette started doing voluntary work among women?s groups in Haringey, North London. She became a Training manager and then Agency Manager of a public not for profit company and is now a businesswoman running a growing enterprise that employs 650 people and has a turnover of £45 million a year. Janette holds strong views about leadership and trust in business and the importance of new kinds of leadership for the 21st Century. Jenny Edwards is Chief Executive of Homeless Link which is the national membership organisation for frontline homelessness agencies in England. Their mission is to be a catalyst that will help to bring an end to homelessness. First and foremost, they are a national umbrella body with a growing membership. Their member organisations support thousands of people whose lives have been marked by homelessness. Every day they help people make the journey away from homelessness. Jenny says they have learnt to speak out with confidence as they have grown into their leadership role as the independent voice of the sector.
