ABSTRACT

Rutgers, Columbia and NYU in partnership with the City of New York, Silicon Harlem, and CCNY propose to develop and deploy an advanced wireless testbed with integrated edge cloud support in West Harlem/Manhattanville. The proposed testbed provides a programmable infrastructure to experimenters to allow them to 1) develop and evaluate new technologies in the wireless communications, networking, and cloud domains (massive MIMO, mmWave, edge cloud computing, etc.), 2) implement breakthrough smart city applications and evaluate their performance in real world scenarios and along with the local community. The testbed will provide open source programmable hardware and will support remote experimentation. It will be deployed in West Harlem and one of its main goals is to engage the local community and local government in the development of new applications and in the evaluation of use-cases unique to the NYC urban environment. The workshop will include presentations related to the testbed architecture and examples of hands-on experiments/applications that could be enabled through the platform using remote access to an experimental network.
