Our third Lansdowne Debate will be a Speakers Corner Debate where you the audience will be the main speakers of the event.
We invite you to speak either as a Speakers Corner speaker for no more than about 4 minutes. Or you can add comments and/or questions from the floor about what you think the main issues this country will now face following the General Election of May 7th.
Francis Sealey of GlobalNet21 will set the context for this debate at the start and Marcus Warry from The Real Debate Club will then facilitate the debate with the roving microphone.
We are looking forward to you letting us know what you think the main issues will be and these may well form the basis for future meetings.
So what will be the issues in the next five years that will dominate the political scene and indeed our own discussions? Clearly some of the issues will be
• How do we reform a broken electoral system and get a representative House of Commons • How do we engage communities much more effectively across the UK • What will be the future of the Union • What will be our role in Europe and indeed on the global stage • How do we address the alienation and disillusionment felt by so many people • How do we tackle problems of poverty, equality and cohesion • How do we create cohesion in our diverse and vibrant society • How can individuals make a difference and help to make positive change
There are many more issues but we want you to tell us what you think is important. So come and join us and let us know if you want to be one of the speakers for our Lansdowne Speakers Corner Debate.
We hope this session will be one where we can voice our views about the future of democracy in the UK. How has it changed, how representative is it and how secure.
This debate will take place at The Landsdowne Club in Mayfair. Built in 1763, it became a Social Club in 1935. Although it is considered an exclusive and traditional club unlike its contemporaries, The Lansdowne Club admitted men and woman as equal members since its doors opened.
It now through activities like debates is becoming much more inclusive and we welcome them opening their doors in this way to involve a wider community.
