Apr 12, 2017 · Toronto, Canada

When: April 12th, 2017 from 6pm-8pm

Where: Infusion: 200 Wellington St W, 10th Floor, Toronto, ON M5V 3C7

Topic 1: Linux Container Platform (Kubernetes, OpenShift and Ansible Automation) including Pipeline Automation - From Code to Containers and Automated Continuous Delivery on Azure

Kyle Bassett - Partner @ Arctiq
Daniyal Javed - DevOps Consultant @ Arctiq

Containers, Containers, Containers! This demonstration by Kyle Bassett, Co-founder of Arctiq, will provision a multi-node OpenShift container platform on Azure. Kyle will showcase utilizing Ansible to provision Azure virtual machines, security groups, networking, storage, etc.  The function of this capability is to enable a foundation to leverage Ansible to install and configure the container platform. This will include all the base projects required to allow a development team hit the ground running, including scaling the platform when required. Arctiq will also discuss strategies and tools for scaling up and scaling-down the required infrastructure to handle peak periods of load on the cluster.

By the end of this session, you will:

• Recognize the power of Ansible and Azure modules for automating your infrastructure provisioning - including the intricacies of scaling both up and down.

• Participate in a live demonstration of  an enterprise grade container platform based on Docker and Kubernetes running inside Azure, and touch on integrated features that help drive automation.

• Understand of the operational tooling available including metrics, logging, security, user management, scaling, recovery, etc., for modern platform management.

Part 2 of the session will focus primarily on how a development team can utilize and benefit from a cloud based container self service platform to support Continuous Deployment and Integration. Daniyal will demonstrate a CI/CD workflow beginning with GitHub code check-in, to complete pipeline automation utilizing Jenkins and OpenShift. The demonstration will include compilation, container image delivery, registration, and cross environment promotion.  Arctiq will also discuss other pipeline automation opportunities, including security compliance and scanning of code and container images.

By the end of this session, you will:

• Understand how modern software tools can enable DevOps and accelerate software development teams

• See a complete application pipeline in action, leveraging Github and Jenkins

• Understand how all this automation fits into a heavy process based enterprise organization and how you can drive rapid automation while still adhering to  legacy processes.

Topic 2: Azure Network Watcher

Presenter: Adin Ermie, Cloud Solutions Architect & Azure Practice Lead at Gibraltar Solutions Inc.

Whether you create a single Virtual Machine or a multi-tier environment in Azure, diagnosing and troubleshooting connectivity issues can be a challenge. Microsoft has released a new toolset, called Azure Network Watcher, to empower all Azure users to be able to monitor, diagnose, and gain insights into your Azure networks.

In this session, we will discuss how to get started, the different capabilities of the tool and what you can use them for, along with highlighting some current limitations. Demos of some key features will also be included.

No registration required but please RSVP for the event. Feel free to invite your colleagues to join the group and attend the events. As always, pizza is on us!!

We are on LinkedIn too! Please join our group.

We look forward to seeing you on April 12th!!
