What are the advantages to the different IoT Communication Technologies?

Jonathan (JJ) Nowlin is in technical marketing with Eaton Corporation, where he designs wireless Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) mesh networks for electric utility customers.  Before that he worked for Verizon Wireless in Minneapolis designing and optimizing cellular networks and in-building cellular systems. He received his electrical engineering undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison and a MBA from the Carlson School of Management.  

Derek Wallace Product Marketing - MultiTech
Derek brings 20 years of product management experience to his role as Director of Product Management for MultiTech. He has worked across multiple parts of the value chain and around the world. He is responsible for the entire MultiTech portfolio, including product lifecycle and management process. He oversees a growing team focused on defining and launching the products that will achieve the most business value for our customers as well as MultiTech.

Rod Landers - Founding Partner, Lab|651
Rod leads the Lab 651 team of seasoned embedded systems engineers, ready to tackle a wide range of problems. He believes that technology should integrate seamlessly and transparently into everyday life. Rodney has been in the M2M/IoT area for more than 20 years, and, in addition to holding several patents, he is a serial entrepreneur. His work, which includes an automatic landing system for commercial aircraft and E911 for cell phones, impacts the lives of millions of people every day.

Specialties: Wireless technologies for use in M2M & IoT applications, including Cellular, GPS, Wi-Fi,[masked] (Zigbee, 6LoPan, LoRa), Bluetooth 4.0, RFID, NFC, and Satellite (Iridium, GlobalStar, Orbcomm).


Jonathan will open the talk with an overview of IoT communication technologies and talk about a practice example of a smart grid.

Derek will focus his presentation on LoRa Technologies.

Rod will focus in on BlueTooth.
