This class is a 1-day workshop running from 12:30pm-5pm Saturday March 10th.
Curious about what it takes to be a digital project manager (DPM)? Or maybe you want to become more organized and help your company run more efficiently? This class is an introduction to managing digital projects large and small, and will take you from knowing absolutely nothing about how to manage a project to a solid understanding of what’s involved in making your project successful.
We’ll walk through each step of planning, estimating, and running a digital project, complete with detailed examples and course materials for you to take home. The class will also include group exercises that will let you experience and practice some of the more challenging aspects of the job. Class discussions will include details on our processes at work, stories from our careers, and the tools that Suzie & Jess use on a daily basis.
In this course we will cover:
• What does a DPM do?
• Agile & Waterfall Styles
• Tools & workflows that we use
• Kicking off a new project
• Estimating the work
• Keeping the details organized
• Working with your clients, not against them
• Collaborating with your coworkers
You should be interested in project management as it relates specifically to client-facing digital projects (e.g. websites, mobile apps, software applications). The instructors all come from an agency setting and the class will have that perspective. No technical skills are required. No laptop is needed, but something to take notes on is recommended.

ABOUT THE TEACHERS:
Jessica Victor: Project Management found its way to Jessica Victor after she had been working for a number of small Philadelphia tech startups. Jessica realized that her organizational skills and background in psychology were well matched for the busy life of a digital project manager. As a Senior Project Manager at Tonic Design, she gets to help projects go from a simple concept to a complete finished product on the web. Jessica also enjoys traveling, with the main item on her bucket list to ‘visit all the places’ and ‘eat all the things there.’
Suzie Nieman: Suzie's first taste of web development was in 2008 when her favorite local coffee shop needed a website. She spent the next month figuring out how to tweak a WordPress template, and has been obsessed with web and mobile ever since. She now works as a digital project manager at We Are Mammoth (http://www.wearemammoth.com), spending her days producing successful projects for her clients. She is also an organizer and teacher for GDI Philly. Outside of work, she loves running, reading books, eating at new restaurants, and cuddling with her two dogs.
