Internet of Things Waterloo meetup - May 26th 6:30pm @ The Boathouse

Nevine Ebeid is an Embedded Security Systems Engineer with TrustPoint Innovation Technologies Ltd. with a comprehensive background in cryptography and embedded systems programming. She's particularly passionate about implementing effective and efficient low-level algorithms. 

Nevine received a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo, where her research was focused on countermeasures to side-channel attacks on cryptographic alogrithms, especially those pertaining to elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) and was able to successfully apply her field of research and go beyond it at BlackBerry, Certicom and TrustPoint Innovation. 

Nevine will tell us her story of chasing bits, negotiating keys, signing NFC tags, building trust, hiding identities, ..., in constrained devices.

Tim McConnell is a development architect in the Emerging Technologies team at SAP.  He is a University of Waterloo graduate and application developer focused primarily on distributed database systems.

He enjoys mentoring co-op students as they develop customer applications and prototypes using the latest technologies including machine learning, media walls, smartphones, tablets, BLE beacons & wearables. 

Over the holidays, he realized he had a lot to learn in order to be ready for the IoT.  Tim will tell his story of exploring the development of "Things" with zero experience in professional or hobby electronics.
