G. Pino Porciello, MASc., MBA, P.Eng.
Vice President of Product Management and Marketing at ESCRYPT (Canada)
Topic: Securing the connected and automated vehicle
The car has been a fundamental economic driver for over 50 years and we are on the cusp of a new auto boom as technology, industry efforts, and government regulations come together. The car is already a connected mobile computing platform and it is estimated that by 2022 there will be 1.8 Billion automotive M2M connections.
Security has been identified as one of the key challenges for the future of IoT and more specifically the connected/automated vehicle (CV/AV). Security assures the authenticity, integrity, and confidential of the “transactions” between vehicles, infrastructure, and people, which in turn enables new applications of CV/AV technologies and the business models necessary for their adoption.
Pino will present an overview of securing the connected and automated vehicle, applications that are being pursued, and highlight current activities that ESCRYPT is involved with including the CV (V2X) demonstration project in the City of Stratford.
Matt Stevens - CEO FleetCarma
Topic: Electric Vehicles & the Grid - Friends or Enemies?
With over 2 million electric vehicles on the road, and sales accelerating, utilities are rapidly trying to get a handle on the additional grid load. At the same time, solar and wind generation are on the rise. Are these on a collision course, with dire results? Or are they actually the solution for each other? And how is FleetCarma trying to figure that out?
As CEO, Matt has been involved with the design of over 20 different electric vehicles, including a steal electric snowmobile for the military. He is a bad rock climber, has a Ph.D. mainly focused on killing lithium batteries, and once upon a time worked in private equity.
