Speakers:
Dave Lougheed - VP, Experience Design at Klick Health
Dave will discuss "A**hole Design: Is it ever OK?"
"A**hole Design isn't crappy design. Crappy design is the result of good intentions but poor execution. A**hole design describes any deliberate effort to deceive or generally make an experience worse for the user."
With a diverse set of skills spanning UX, technology, and strategy, Dave brings a fiercely user-centered perspective to Experience Design. A 20 year digital veteran with recent international startup experience, Dave combines the discipline of an agency approach with the agility and speed of a lean enterprise. Dave has worked with some of the most exciting brands in the world including Nike, Nintendo, BMW, AOL, Starbucks and many more.
Jane Motz Hayes - Director of Design at Tribal Scale
A champion of human-centered design thinking, Jane creates world-class user interfaces and user experiences that prioritize inclusivity and generational diversity. Before TribalScale, Jane was the UX Director at Klick Inc. (K2 Digital), and ran a successful independent design consultancy. She is the inaugural Industry Partner at the University of Toronto iSchool, and is an active member of both Toronto’s design and film production communities. Jane is strongly committed to empowering women in tech and leadership for a more inclusive and innovative world.
Mazi Javidiani - Researcher at OCAD sLAB
Mazi will talk about the unintended consequences of design.
"Many services designed to improve our quality of life end up creating much suffering in their path. Through systems thinking we can apply an ethical rigor that considers the the second or third order impact of an innovation, and allows us to see how value created for one group, can destroy value for another."
Mazi is dedicated to untangling complexities, and improving human experiences. For Mazi, design is ultimately a conversation, and therefore always richer when done together with those whom it affects. He is interested in the paradigm shifts in technology and their systemic behavioral, cultural, organizational, and societal effects. Before OCAD, he was the design director of a communications agency in Edmonton. He has designed user experiences for video games such as Jurassic Park, and taught UX design as an adjunct professor at MacEwan University. His interest in cybernetics and post-structural philosophy also led him to Concordia’s Hexagram, where he worked on responsive architecture as a researcher.
