Humans Learning Machines Learning Humans (+ Potluck)

Jul 25, 2017 · Santa Rosa, United States of America

Our next Meetup is our own Matt Sevrens, who recently posted to our Facebook list whether the content of this presentation would be of interest to the group and there was a resounding and positive YES.

Matt's  background is primarily in natural language processing at a character level using deep nets, but the techniques apply across all types of data. He will be discussing practical applications of machine learning, machine learning in a broad sense and how to understand the algorithms from a human perspective. I'll be mainly focusing on the the interplay between machine learning algorithms and the people utilizing them. Should be tons of fun and probably open your mind to ideas you have probably not heard much about before, but is certainly something we should all know more about.

WIMP meetings start at 6:30, so please be here promptly to avoid interrupting the presentation. Parking is available in campus parking lots and there is a limited amount of parking in the adjacent neighborhood in the evenings. Please note parking rules if you go that route.

Please bring what you would like to snack on and share. We will supply pizza and water. No alcohol allowed on SRJC campus. Thanks.

Please RSVP if you plan on coming. Thanks and we are looking forward to seeing you!

P.S. We'll have some free Peachpit Dreamweaver CC, CS6 and Javascript books for folks who come early. :)
