Leaving No-One Behind on Agenda 2030
Join us in our House of Commons meeting which is part of a series of meetings on The Sustainable Development Goals for Agenda 2030. In this Meeting we will be discussing Goal 8 – to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
Roughly half the world’s population still lives on the equivalent of about US$2 a day. And in too many places, having a job doesn’t guarantee the ability to escape from poverty. Substandard working conditions are often related to poverty, inequality and discrimination. In many contexts, certain groups – such as workers with disabilities, women workers, youth, and migrants, among others – face particular obstacles in accessing decent work and may be especially vulnerable to abuses.
Being part of the global move to achieve Goal 8 of the Agenda 2030 requires that Government makes coherent policies that will promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth and demonstrate Its commitment to reach those left behind first.
This meeting is being held in collaboration with AlphaZULU Advocates and civil society organisations to promote the Sustainable Development Goals in the UK, and is held in the week commemorating the World Day of Social Justice.
The Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalisation focuses on guaranteeing fair outcomes for all through employment, social protection, social dialogue and fundamental principles and rights at work.
The session will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders to discuss the UK Government’s commitment to achieving SDG 8 and how policy and institutional coherence at National and International levels can accelerate changes and bring better outcomes for the economically and often socially deprived communities. Staff of the Parliamentary Committee on Work and Pensions will talk about the Committee's current inquiries, the implications for UK’s implementation of SDG 8 and how stakeholders can contribute to its scrutiny of relevant Government policies.
There will be contributions from a diversity of distinguished Panel and an open question session.
